DP PRS - DP Position Reference Systems

Objectives

To provide training in the operation of position reference systems and vessel sensors commonly used by DP Systems. The training will be a combination of theoretical lessons and practical exercises.

During the course each participant will have access to work stations and live equipment.

Systems available include DGNSS, Cyscan®, Radius®, Fanbeam® and APOS®.

Participants will receive instruction on the theory of operation, practical use, limitations and operational issues connected with each system.

Detailed Description:

Objectives

To provide training in the operation of position reference systems and vessel sensors commonly used by DP Systems. The training will be a combination of theoretical lessons and practical exercises.

During the course each participant will have access to work stations and live equipment.

Systems available include DGNSS, Cyscan®, Radius®, Fanbeam® and APOS®.

Participants will receive instruction on the theory of operation, practical use, limitations and operational issues connected with each system.

 

Participants

DP Operators looking to improve their knowledge and understanding of the operation and maintenance of the PRS on their vessel.

 

Content

Revision of DP principles.

General information of the different types of DGNSS systems and how to configure and operate the systems. The External system interface for receiving differential and ionosphere corrections is explained and participants will perform exercises both on simulators and live equipment.

Basic background knowledge about Hydro Acoustic Position Reference (HPR) principles and how to operate the APOS ® interface. This will include configuration of transponders/transducers.

Basic knowledge of laser reference principles and operational limitations in their use. They will perform simulated exercises on Cyscan® and Fanbeam® equipment.

Basic knowledge of microwave reference principles and operational limitations in their use. They will perform simulated exercises on RADius®.

Basic knowledge of vessel/environment sensor principles, how they are interfaced and operational limitations when used with DP.

Outline information on other Position reference systems used in DP operations.

Review of rules, regulations and guidelines with regard to reference/vessel sensors.

Principles of Position reference and sensor handling in DP systems.

Practical exercises.

 

Course Pre-requisites

Ideally participants will hold a Nautical Institute DP certificate or be working towards certification.

 

Language, Literacy and Numeracy Requirements

This unit requires the ability to read and interpret typical product specifications, operating manuals, procedures, and safety information as provided to operators. Writing is required to the level of completing workplace forms, logs and reports. The course is delivered in English.

 

Assessment & Competency Achievement

There is no formal assessment carried out at the completion of the course. 100% attendance and participation in the course is required. Participants will be awarded a Certificate of Training on completion of the course.

 

Course Duration

4 Days:   Day 1 8:30am to 4:30pm

              Day 2 8:30am to 4:30pm

              Day 3 8:30am to 4:30pm

              Day 4 8:30am to 12 noon

Minimum 2 participants

Maximum 6 participants

 

Course Fee and Additional Service Costs

$4,873.00 ($4,430.00 + GST)

This course fee includes lunch, and morning and afternoon tea at the centre.
